Main features
- 0.02-0.20 ohm under 3M ETM-12 test conditions
- Typical expected shielding effectiveness of 40-60 dB
- Broad thickness and adhesion selection
Product Description
3M-9793KW is an XYZ-axis electrically conductive double-sided pressure-sensitive adhesive tape that combines acrylic adhesive with a conductive matrix carrier. It provides an adhesive electrical path between joined substrates for grounding and EMI shielding in equipment and electronic components. The conformable, compressible construction is offered in twelve variants from 150 to 800 µm, with transparent PET liner configurations that vary by thickness. Product selection should consider thickness, adhesion target, liner configuration, surface condition, and the pressure needed to develop adhesive contact and electrical connection.
Key features
- XYZ-axis conductivity: Z-axis electrical resistance is 0.02-0.20 Ω under 3M ETM-12 test conditions.
- EMI shielding performance: Typical expected shielding effectiveness is 40-60 dB through the tape thickness using standard EMI shielding test methods.
- Conductive construction: Acrylic PSA with a conductive matrix carrier combines pressure-sensitive attachment with electrical conductivity.
- Thickness selection: Twelve variants are available from 150 to 800 µm.
- Adhesion targets: Face-side targets range from 1200 to 2500 gf/inch and back-side targets from 1600 to 2500 gf/inch to stainless steel under ASTM D1000.
Applications / Suitable for
- Grounding between conductive substrates.
- EMI shielding in equipment and electronic components.

Thickness and adhesion values are reported using ASTM D1000. Adhesion values are target values to stainless steel (SUS).
Application and bonding process
Bond strength depends on adhesive-to-surface contact, substrate type and surface condition. Firm pressure after assembly helps develop wet-out and engage the conductive adhesive with the substrates to establish electrical connection. Pressure, dwell time and moderate heat are process variables to evaluate for the specific assembly.
Firm pressure after assembly develops adhesive contact and engages the conductive adhesive with the substrates.
Shelf life is 12 months from the date of manufacture when stored in roll form, in the original packaging, at 10-25°C (50-77°F) and less than 60% relative humidity. After removal from the original packaging, converting, shipping and storage should remain within the prescribed temperature and humidity controls. If the release liner is exchanged during converting, test the replacement liner with the tape because transferred release agents can reduce tack, adhesion, electrical performance and shelf life.
Electrical and EMI performance
Values shown are representative/typical and are not specification limits. Electrical resistance and shielding performance depend on contact and test conditions.
| Property | Value | Unit | Method / condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Z-axis electrical resistance | 0.02-0.20 | Ω | 3M ETM-12; 10 mm x 10 mm contact area, one pass with a 2 kg rubber roller, 20-minute dwell, then DC resistance measurement after 5-30 seconds. |
| Shielding effectiveness | 40-60 | dB | Typical expected range through the tape thickness using standard EMI shielding test methods. Result depends on conductive-layer type and thickness, adhesive strength, degree of contact, surface smoothness and test frequency. |
